Ubuhle be Afrika offers a wide variety of indigenous African
rhythms and beats. Our programme entails the following
performances, depending on the requirement. A shows
duration can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes or 1 to 2 hours.
We can perform a combination of the following:
Xhosa dance - Narrated
In Xhosa dancing the emphasis not only
falls on dancing but also on the group singing
and handclapping that traditionally accompany
the rhythmic dancing.
Originally from the Eastern Cape, South Africa, the
dancers stamp their feet and move their bodies
to the rhythm of the drum.
Zulu dance - Narrated
Dating back to the time of the great Zulu King,
Shaka, this rhythmic dancing is full of energy,
adrenalin and high kicks. It is normally performed
on royal occasions. In the Zulu culture, each
movement and formation symbolizes a part of
a particular clans history.
There are various dances within the Zulu culture:
“rhythmical dance of the small shield, the fiery
motivation body movements of the hunting dance,
the symbolizing of the tidal ebb and flow in the
Umbhekuzo; the snakelike motion of the umchwayo,
and the challenging war dance /umghubha with
traditional shield and spear.
